Robert Lowe’s voice is on forty-four releases, from a Roadrunner split in 1991 to a digital live album in 2024. If you are coming to him through Disciple of Doom, or you only know one of his bands, this is a route through the records in the order they came out.

1991–1998: Solitude Aeturnus

Solitude Aeturnus was Robert’s band from 1988 to 2026, and its first five albums came out in seven years. Into the Depths of Sorrow (1991) is where it starts. Beyond the Crimson Horizon followed in 1992, then Through the Darkest Hour in 1994, Downfall in 1996 and Adagio in 1998.

The same years produced a few one-offs worth finding: the Roadrunner split Breaking Barriers Vol. 5 (1991), the 7-inch The New Wave of American True Metal (1996), and two tribute albums in 1998, where the band covered “Hallowed Be Thy Name” for Iron Maiden and “No More Tears” for Ozzy Osbourne.

1995–2007: Last Chapter and Concept of God

Alongside Solitude Aeturnus, Robert sang in Last Chapter, whose album The Living Waters came out in 1997. The band also released a single covering Metallica’s “Escape”. Concept of God released Visions in 2007.

2006: Alone

Alone is the sixth and last Solitude Aeturnus studio album. The band’s live record Hour of Despair came out in 2009, a compilation, In Times of Solitude, in 2011, and a deluxe digital edition of Hour of Despair in 2024.

2007–2012: Candlemass

Robert joined Candlemass in 2006 and sang on three studio albums: King of the Grey Islands (2007), Death Magic Doom (2009) and Psalms for the Dead (2012). The period also left the EP Lucifer Rising (2008), the live albums Ashes to Ashes and No Sleep ’til Athens (both 2010), and a run of singles, among them “Hammer of Doom” and “If I Ever Die”. If you want to hear him live with the band, Ashes to Ashes was filmed at Sweden Rock.

2017–2023: Tyrant, Grief Collector, DiGelsomina

After Candlemass, Robert sang in Tyrant and Grief Collector. Tyrant released Hereafter in 2020, with the single “Snowblind”. Grief Collector put out the EP From Dissension to Avowal in 2019 and the album En Delirium in 2021. In 2023 he was the guest voice on DiGelsomina’s Sic Itur ad Astra.

Guest vocals

Robert has lent his voice to other people’s records since the 1990s:

Where to start

If you only have time for three records, take one from each chapter: Into the Depths of Sorrow for Solitude Aeturnus, King of the Grey Islands for Candlemass and Hereafter for what came after. Robert’s own Spotify playlist runs across all of it, and every cover is on the Discography page.
